Job summary
The fracture clinic forms part of the outpatient's department and deals with both acute fractures and orthopaedic conditions.
Each consultant and their team have a specific morning or afternoon for their fracture clinic. There are daily clinics from Monday to Friday, for trauma patients who have been directly referred from the emergency department and in patient. We have a Matron and department Manager in post who are passionate and committed to the staff and improving patient experience.
Main duties of the job
To be responsible for assessing individual patient care needs in relation to and developing, implementing, and evaluating plans of care for patients in accordance with agreed policies and professional guidelines. To provide a plastering service for the orthopedic wards, clinics, theatres, fracture clinics and Emergency Department. To work flexibly to meet the needs of the service. Perform cast applications and support in manipulations and reductions Assist nursing staff in Orthopaedic clinics Ensure that clinics run smoothly Resolve queries, requests and complaints in a polite manner Ensure patients understand the compliance with treatment/care plan Apply specialised knowledge and skills to ensure the optimal treatment outcome and minimise patient discomfort Manage patients with plaster problems when they return to the Plaster Room, making decisions to change the cast or not, and recognise medical conditions such as compartment syndrome, DVT Work in a safe and effective way to a high standard of care.
