Job summary

The department is a well-functioning and cohesive unit that provides essential services to the local population consistent with its location in a District General Hospital.

The hospital does not receive multiple or serious trauma cases as those are moved directly to the specialised trauma centres in the Trauma network. We see approximately 150 fracture necks of femur and the majority of our remaining trauma work comprises isolated femoral, tibial, forearm, upper arm and ankle fractures.

The department refers suspected tumours to the Unit at RNOH, Stanmore. Spinal problems with neural issues are referred to the Royal London. We work closely with our Radiology colleagues through weekly MDTs on Wednesdays (1230). The department also benefits from the services of a Care of the Elderly

Main duties of the job

  • Provide middle grade cover on a rotational shift basis throughout trauma and orthopaedic surgery.
  • Supervise the SHOs, FY1s and FY2s in service delivery, in outpatients, inpatients, and day services.
  • Provide a rapid response to A&E to facilitate the 4 hour trolley-wait target
  • Undertake outpatient clinics and operating theatre lists as directed by the
  • Participate in the Clinical Governance and Risk Assessment
  • Offer a commitment to both postgraduate and undergraduate Orthopaedic Surgery training within the
  • Work with the multidisciplinary

  • MRCS or Equivalent
