Job summary

The post holder will be rotating through our inpatient and outpatient dispensaries, stores and procurement and wards as part of their learning pathway.

To be able to progress to a Band 5 senior pharmacy technician role, the post holder will need to meet the following:

  • Complete the probation period and be substantively confirmed in their post as per the Trust's Probationary Policy & Procedure
  • Have completed BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and the Practice of Pharmacy Technicians or equivalent
  • Achieved the Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification
  • Achieved the Accredited in Medicines Management (AIMM) qualification / Medicines Optimisation Program (MOP) or equivalent
  • Have completed a minimum of 4 (3 month) rotations (2 rotations if completed PTPT training at NMUH)
  • Have no issues with attendance or performance.
  • Mandatory training up to date

Main duties of the job

The post holder will ensure that the Medicines Management, Procurement, Dispensary and Distribution services are delivered in a safe, effective, economic and timely manner. They will be responsible for ensuring that all documentation and procedures are carried out in accordance with current legislation and guidelines.

Dispensary and Distribution duties will include in-patient, out-patient and ward based dispensing, taking in prescriptions, deal with queries, dispensing Control Drugs, counselling patients, ward stock topping up, stock control, expiry checks, coordination and managing staff among other tasks.

The post holder will be responsible for managing stock control in the dispensary, investigating and resolving discrepancies, and implementing new systems of work to improve stock control.

Procurement duties will include receiving stock, placing orders and maintaining a safe working environment.

Medicines Management duties will include supporting Medicines Optimisation at ward level by completing Drug Histories, POD checking, transcribing, counselling, dispensing using our satellite units, checking expiry dates and stock counting. Be part of audits, projects and surveys.
