An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced children's nurse with a desire to use their considerable knowledge to develop specialist skills in the management of Asthma. The Paediatric team are looking for a Clinical Nurse Specialist Band 7 to be part of the forward thinking expressive Paediatric Asthma service. This is a 1 year post to cover a secondment.
This exciting opportunity will allow a self-motivated individual to offer dynamic leadership to the asthma service. You will work across the acute and community services enabling children and families to manage their condition. You will be expected to provide specialist knowledge on children's asthma and care to patients and their families. Along with the Consultants you will ensure that the asthma service for children meets BTS standards.
The successful candidate will be motivated, forward thinking, enthusiastic and committed to becoming involved in all aspects of the patient pathway, working in close collaboration with ward and community staff and other clinicians. They will be self-reliant and confident with an ability to work flexibly and adapt to change.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to manage a caseload of Children and Young People with Asthma. Be proactive in reducing acute asthma activity, admissions, ED attendances and outpatient activity. Support the implementation of national improvements.
About us
The team consist of specialist nurses and children's community nurses. The Specialist nurses include Allergy, Asthma, Epilepsy, Oncology, HIV, Sickle Cell and Diabetes. The specialist nurses are all hospital based and work alongside specialist Paediatric consultants.

The post holder will be expected to manage caseloads consisting of children and young people with asthma, pre-school wheeze and some general respiratory patients .You will be asked to take a lead in the development of policies and guidelines for those patients. This extends across both families and parents throughout the whole trust and the wider community.The CNS role also includes delivering staff training and education for the management of children with asthma and wheeze across the Trust in collaboration with community asthma teams. The Band 7 CNS shall be expected to lead and manage his/her own respiratory patient cohort working closely with the interdisciplinary team. This will include provision of expert advice and knowledge in the management and co-ordination within the multidisciplinary service for children and taking a holistic approach to the child and family. The post holder will be required to oversee the safe discharge of patients from hospital to home, assist in the review of patients in the MDT asthma outpatient clinic and run nurse led clinics where needed. The CNS will be required to arrange and communicate with patients requiring biologics and further investigation for children and young people with difficult to treat or severe asthma.

- RSCN/RN Child branch
- Advanced nurse practitioner formal qualification/ extensive clinical experience in paediatric Asthma
- Mentorship Preparation or equivalent
- Level 3 child protection training
- Evidence of continuing professional development within the Asthma specialty
- Relevant Degree in nursing or equivalent
Desirable
- Masters degree or working towards
- Nurse prescriber qualification
Skills and abilities

- Excellent written & verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Computer literate: able to use word, email, excel and manage databases
