An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead the Radiotherapy department at North Mid due to the promotion of the current post holder. The post holder would have responsibility for all aspects of day to day running of the department including budgetary control, governance, radiation protection, HR management including recruitment and retention, capital replacement plan and our Going for Good programme of improvements.

This critical post requires an experienced and currently registered therapeutic radiographer who is able to lead complex change, build working relationships with internal and external partners, and promote a positive and safety conscious environment for staff and patients. Main duties of the job

  • This role will have day-to-day responsibility for the management of the Radiotherapy Department.
  • This senior post heads the Radiotherapy Service and ensures that the service provides a high quality and innovative practice to all its users and clients.
  • The post holder will provide effective professional leadership for all therapy radiographers within the service, taking account of relevant legal, ethical and professional frameworks promoting and maintaining high professional standards.
  • The post holder will maintain knowledge of the latest developments and techniques within their area of expertise with a view to introducing them into the service where appropriate.
  • The post holder will be expected to work closely with North central and North East London Cancer Alliances, attending meetings, seminars and study days as required; being a member of the Radiotherapy Expert Reference Group and Network Oversight Group supporting the implementation of NHSE radiotherapy service specification.

The post holder will take the lead responsibility for the clinical practice of all staff employed within the radiotherapy treatment department, liaising with the Clinical Lead and Head of Radiotherapy Physics to maintain and promote a high quality, safe and efficient service to all users. Jointly with other senior staff to oversee the purchasing of resources, ensuring that the department is fit for purpose both for staffing and equipment procurement.

About us

The radiotherapy department sits within oncology outpatients. We treat approximately 1200 new patients including breast, prostate, lung, head & neck and GI. Current we use a Philips 16 slice wide bore CT scanner; we have three Varian TrueBeam Linacs in total running on Aria with Eclipse planning. In addition we have an Xstrahl superficial skin unit. The service is continually working to implement practice development and all staff are encouraged to contribute to the achievement of these. We are able to provide opportunities for staff development both through robust in house training programmes and commissioned CPD funding. We are continually looking to develop roles and service within radiotherapy, we were the first London centre to implement a consultant radiographer post and are currently implementing SABR for Oligometastic disease as well as exploring additional advanced clinical practitioner roles for breast and urology tumour sites.

  • Bsc Hons in Therapy Radiography or DCR(T)
  • Current HPCP Registration
  • Post graduate study in management or proven management experience

Desirable

  • Post graduate qualification in related specialist subject at MSc level or equivalent experience
