Foot and Ankle Senior Clinical Fellow

Job summary

The aim of the fellowship is to provide training and research opportunities in elective foot and ankle surgery for a six month period. There will be no on-call duties. The fellow will work with all the consultants in the Foot and Ankle Team.

This advert is for a 6 month Senior Fellow appointment we will be appointing 2 candidates over 1 year period starting from April 2026 to March 2027

The Unit specialise in elective foot and ankle surgery only. In addition, the unit has 3 Clinical Nurse Specialists, a physiotherapist and a part-time podiatrist who help in the care on both inpatients and outpatients. Our Foot & Ankle Orthotist complements the unit and sees patients in the outpatient clinic to provide a one stop service. A Patient Outcome/research Data officer is appointed annually as well. Four trainees are attached to our unit: a fellow (this post), an ST6, an ST5 and an international fellow.

Weekly time table consists of outpatient clinics, operating list, research, MDT meetings, and ward rounds.

Excellent facilities for clinical research are available in collaboration with Institute of Orthopaedics and the biomechanical engineering department. Time will be allowed for individual research.

Main duties of the job

Experience in foot and ankle surgery at SpR level, already developed an interest in foot and ankle surgery, experience of research in foot and ankle surgery, experience of MDT working.

Evidence of good written and verbal communication skills, an understanding of the major risk factors for foot and ankle surgery at a population level and at the level of the individual, ability and enthusiasm to teach medical undergraduates and Allied Health Professionals.

Clarity of career aims, in particular reasons for choosing fellowship post in foot and ankle surgery, evidence of being a good team member, leadership qualities, commitment and interest in research. Recognition of the importance of research in the field.
