Job summary

We currently have a Fellowship post in shoulder and elbow reconstruction surgery available from October 2025 for 12 months, this position is a post-CCT position. Applicants should have grounding in shoulder and elbow reconstruction surgery. This Fellowship will provide exceptional training in current techniques in primary and revision shoulder and elbow reconstruction surgery. The Fellow will work with the Consultant team and have supervised operating lists and attend outpatient clinics. There will be ample opportunity to undertake research and audit. This Fellowship is ideal for surgeons pursuing a sub -specialist career.

The post holder will be expected to develop knowledge both clinically and surgically over the 1 year fellowship. The fellow will also develop sufficient knowledge and leadership in order to take a leading role as Consultant in a department dealing with complex revision shoulder and elbow arthroplasty, During the course of the fellowship emphasis will be given to many facets of the job; not just the technical aspects of surgery and performance of outpatient clinics, but also on team working, coordination, and management including discharge planning etc.

Main duties of the job

The Fellow's role will evolve such that they will be taught the assessment of complex shoulder and elbow conditions, leading to a supervised elective operative practice initially in primary arthroplasty of the shoulder and elbow, and arthroscopic reconstruction of instability and rotator cuff lesions. As the development of the Fellow's portfolio proceeds so more complex operative procedures will be introduced. The Fellow will be expected to assist at all operating lists, will have independent outpatient clinic responsibilities, undertake additional daily ward rounds and support the ward administration and will be expected to develop a number of research projects, under the supervision of the Consultant staff.

The Fellow will assist in operating lists and outpatient clinics. Undertake daily ward rounds, The remaining sessions are flexible to include research and administration. Secretarial support will be provided for the post holder.

There is no on-call commitment.

It is anticipated that after 12 months in post, the Fellow will gain a vast and unique experience in reconstruction options and techniques for all aspects of shoulder and elbow conditions

The role will involve working at our Stanmore & Bolsover outpatient facility.
