Physiotherapist - Orthopaedic Oncology Team -

The Ortho-oncology therapy team at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital are hiring a band 6 physiotherapist (37.5 hours). We are a specialist Tertiary hospital that specialise in treating bone and soft tissue sarcoma, metastatic bone cancer, metastatic spinal cord compression and myeloma across inpatient, outpatient and rehabilitation settings.
You will work collaboratively with a large MDT team including orthopaedic surgeons, spinal surgeons, plastic surgeons, oncologists, nurses, specialist cancer clinic nurse specialists, psychologists/psychiatrists, occupational therapists, dieticians, speech and language and orthotists to perform advanced physiotherapeutic assessment and treatment of patients with diverse and complex orthopaedic conditions.
We have a strong focus on patient centred care, teamwork, research and revolutionising therapy care. We would encourage experienced Band 5 and Band 6 Physiotherapists with a background in orthopaedics, oncology and rehabilitation to apply.
Main duties of the job
To work as an experienced physiotherapist within the ortho-oncology team at RNOH.
A static band 6 physiotherapist must have
- Advanced clinical skills in complex orthopaedic surgery and rehabilitation with job experience and personal development to demonstrate this
- An ability to undertake a comprehensive assessment of patients, including those with diverse or complex presentations, using advanced clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques.
- An ability to formulate and deliver an individual and holistic physiotherapy treatment programme based upon sound knowledge of the evidence of the treatment options available. This could be across inpatient, outpatient and rehabilitation settings in a collaborative manner.

- We are a supportive team of 5 physiotherapists, 3 occupational therapists and a therapy tech who are passionate about rehabilitation of ortho-oncology patients. We are part of the London Sarcoma- one of the largest sarcoma services in Europe with an international reputation for providing the highest quality of care to patients with sarcoma. The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital has a strong reputation as a leader in the field of bone and soft tissue sarcoma and metastatic bone surgery and rehabilitation and is a leader in limb salvage using bespoke endo-prostheses, bone transportation and bone grafting
We are fortunate to have the opportunity to drive forward our research agenda with the embedding of our Senior Sarcoma Research Therapist Dr Sherron Furtado (PhD in Sarcoma Survivorship, MSc, B.P.Th). This has resulted in an increase in publications as well as project presentations at national and international conferences increasing the evidence base for rehabilitation in orthopaedic oncology. We encourage our staff to engage regularly in research projects.
We have direct access to surgeons, advanced practice AHPs and nurses and network of charities. This enables us to have high quality, exciting and regular training to upskill our team members and build a collaborative and inclusive culture at RNOH. Our static staff also complete training in advanced communications and managing difficult conversations and have regular supervision.
