Job summary

We are looking to appoint a Full Time Theatre Support Worker to be part of a team providing comprehensive, high quality support work within a dynamic and exciting Operating Theatre department in the Surgical and Cancer Unit. This very challenging role will require a high level of professionalism. The post holder will need to be able to communicate well with patients, relatives, and a wide range of multi-professional staff, internal and external to the Trust, maintaining confidentiality at all times. In order to provide this support we are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual who has a versatile approach and the ability to cope with a large number of different tasks simultaneously to join our vibrant and friendly department. This role will require a high level of professionalism and be responsible for supporting your Team leader. Performing assigned tasks, including care of patients, in support of, and supervised by a Registered Nurse / Theatre Practitioner. You must be able to positively contribute to a happy and efficient environment for the physical, social and psychological well-being of both patients and colleagues. You will be expected to adhere to agreed Trust Guidelines and Policies.

Our Unit and Department Teams are dynamic, tight knit and work well together. This vacancy would suit someone who is motivated and able to carry out designated tasks as part of the team for which appropriate training has been given.

Main duties of the job

1. Communicate with patients include patients with learning difficulties and paediatric patients, in order to promote their comfort and well-being by supporting them in an anaesthetic room whilst awaiting surgery.

2. Facilitate patient transfer to and from the department when required.

3. Assist with manual handling and transferring of patients when required in compliance with the Trust's Moving and Handling policy.

4. Report accidents/incidents to nurse in charge and complete appropriate Trust documentation.

5. Report defective equipment and take necessary steps to ensure safety of staff and patients.

6. Assist with the administrative function of patient notes accurately and legibly including the accurate documentation of patient's records electronically where appropriate.

7. Obtain specimens from within the sterile field as delegated by a scrub nurse (e.g. body fluids, wound swabs, tissue).

8. Adhere to the Trust uniform policy and maintain a professional image.

9. Carry out designated tasks as part of the team for which appropriate training has been given.

10. Maintenance of appropriate patient records and Trust documentation.

11. Maintain confidentiality of all medical and nursing records.
