A new opportunity has arisen to join the Neuro urology team at Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. This role will be working alongside three consultants, speciality Doctor, consultant clinical scientist, CNS team and healthcare assistant support.
We are looking for a Urology clinical Fellow to provide a safe and effective service for patients under the supervision of the Consultant Urologists. They will undertake core and specialist theatre lists, specialist outpatient clinics and procedures, and other clinical activities. They will lead on the management of Urological Care of inpatients under the team as well as ward referrals, and undertake on-call for the department as required.
Main duties of the job
The Clinical Fellow will have primary charge of all urology patients admitted to the service, fully supported by the Urology Consultant body, duties to include but not limited to:
- Attending ward rounds with the Consultants and will be expected to visit each of their Firm's patients on a daily basis.
- Regular clinics with new neuro reconstructive patients and follow-ups including ward discharges.
- Opportunities to observe, assist and operate in theatre as directed by the consultant and carry out outpatient procedural lists.
- Urology admissions and ward emergency consults frequently arise and the Clinical Fellow will be expected to manage these in the first instance and liaise closely with the full range of multi-disciplinary teams involved in their care.
- Attendance and support for the weekly multi-disciplinary team meeting will be a requirement of the role.
- The Clinical Fellow will also be expected to take part in and present audit and research projects.
- The Clinical Fellow will also be expected to take part in teaching other staff, and undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Participate in a range of CPD activities appropriate for a Non-Consultant Hospital Doctor.
- Undertake annual appraisal and 5 yearly revalidation as per GMC requirements.
- Contribute to the policies and the administrative development of the unit and the hospital as a whole.
- Assist with service development and research strategy.
About us
The Urology department consists of 3 Consultants, 1 Middle Grade (Spr/Fellow), and a specialist nursing team that offers holistic urological care to complex spinal injury patients. The department sits within the London Spinal Injuries Unit and diagnoses and treats the acute and chronic sequalae of spinal injuries on the urinary tract in both the inpatient and outpatient setting and supports with abdomino-pelvic surgery alongside the London Sarcoma Service. Additionally there are strong links with UCLH for the urology service at RNOH.
We offer a full diagnostic work up including videourodynamics and day case endoluminal procedures such as botox, cystolitholapaxy and SPC insertion as well as major reconstructive and restorative surgery such as Artificial Urinary Sphincter, Rectus fascial sling, CLAM cystoplasty and ileal conduit and mitrofanoff formation.
