Job summary
This post is to support patients referred on a suspected cancer pathway to the London Sarcoma Service, with an aim to deliver an accelerated pathway from referral to treatment. Development of the role will be led by the needs of the patient.
The post holder must be adaptable and willing to work flexibly as the service progresses. The post holder will work within the multi-disciplinary team under the clinical supervision provided by the clinical nurse specialist team and support from the AHP Stratified Follow-up Administrator and Cancer Manager.
Main duties of the job
The purpose of this role is to pro-actively coordinate and support the Two Week Wait pathway to ensure the processes within the pathways for cancer patients referred to RNOH are smooth and efficient service for patients.
This role will support the early implementation of early diagnostic pathways for patients with suspected cancer to achieve definitive diagnosis within the required timeframes.
The post holder will work both directly and indirectly with patients and their carers to assist in co-ordinating the appointments and information required by clinicians in the pathway to deliver the faster diagnosis standard of referral to definite diagnosis of cancer/no cancer within 28 days.
The post will require the coordination of appropriate services to maximise the delivery of streamlined diagnostic pathways, thereby improving quality of care and experience for patients and their carers, and diagnosing cancer earlier.
The post holder will be required to highlight any potential delays in the pathway and work to mitigate the impact of these problems.
