Job summary
The RNOH is looking to appoint a Locum Orthopaedic Consultant with specialist interest in adult Limb Reconstruction and Bone infection.
This is a full time Locum post for 12 months of 40 hrs week consisting of Outpatient clinical work, theatre, in-patients care, teaching and organising and planning of lists and regular timetable.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work alongside three experienced Limb Reconstruction Consultants who are leaders in their field. The new Consultant is expected to have a varied range of clinical interests to compliment the skills of the existing consultant team in the limb reconstruction department, the development of which will be supported. This includes a specialist interest in Bone infection.
The Trust is the premier institution solely devoted to an Orthopaedic workload. The primary base is at Brockley Hill, Stanmore Middlesex (240 beds; outpatients/inpatient facilities) supported by Central London outpatient facilities, which opened in December 2009. There is no acute emergency facility but the Trust has a significant secondary complex spinal trauma referral base.
Main duties of the job
Duties at the RNOH include outpatient clinic work, theatre, in-patient care, teaching and organisation and planning of lists and registrar timetables.
The new Consultant is expected to have a varied range of clinical interests to compliment the skills of the existing consultant team in the limb reconstruction department, the development of which will be supported. This includes a specialist interest in Bone infection.
A provisional job plan is included in the job description document. The proposed job plan is subject to change due to potnetial increased theatre availability with current expansion of the theatre complex. Some prospective leave cover of lists within the department will be expected.
About us
RNOH Paediatric and Limb Reconstruction Unit
The Paediatric and Limb Reconstruction Unit provides a regional referral service for paediatric and adult congenital and acquired deformity, the sequelae of traumatic injuries and bone infection. Within the unit there are three consultants specialising in Limb Reconstruction and junior and ancillary staff to support the service. The Unit is one of the largest in Europe in lengthening nail surgery and has an excellent clinical and academic record. Within the RNOH the unit closely collaborates with the Paediatric Unit and the London Sarcoma Service. A multidisciplinary approach is provided through regular meetings. The unit has established systems for data collection and is a pioneer in research in the field with excellent links with the University of London's Institute of Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal Sciences.
