Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Anaesthesia, at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, Middlesex.

The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital is pleased to announce we have a number of 10PA consultant anaesthetist posts available. The anaesthetic department is proud to be a diverse and inclusive department where all new colleagues receive a warm and friendly welcome. You will be joining a department with 35 consultants who provide a large elective and emergency provision to a wide range of services. The posts have become available due to the opening of a new four theatre complex.

10 Programmed Activities will be offered, initially at - 8.0 Direct Clinical Care, 1.5 Supporting Professional Activities, 0.5 on call payment. It is envisaged that the successful candidate will be able to increase SPA activity by mutual agreement once in post.

Job plans will be developed in partnership between the needs of the department and the successful applicant. It is expected that the initial job plan will be reviewed after 6 months service.

Main duties of the job

The post will be based at the Stanmore site in Middlesex.

The key duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Provision of high quality anaesthetic care
  • Clinical Supervision and support of junior anaesthetic staff
  • Active participation in departmental, Trust and national clinical audit
  • To engage with the Trust's appraisal programme for medical staff
  • Regular timetabled activities in the preoperative department
  • Preoperative assessment
  • Regional anaesthesia provision

The specific job plan will be developed in partnership between the needs of the department and the successful applicant. Initial job plan will include sessions with the majority of services provided at the RNOH, including the peripheral nerve injury unit, sarcoma unit and joint replacement unit. In addition to theatre sessions the appointee will be expected to provide assessment and management of patients attending the preoperative clinics.

About us

There are 200 in-patient beds on the main site, including 30 paediatric beds. The trust runs 14 dedicated theatres including a new 4 operating room theatre complex that opened in October 203. The RNOH is located in extensive grounds, set amongst green belt countryside. There is an onsite lake where a moments contemplation can be had, amongst fresh air and nature.

The ASPIRE Centre opened on the RNOH site in 1998, built with a National Lottery grant this houses facilities such as swimming pool, gym, Badminton courts and a dance studio, used and abled bodied and disabled patrons, staff may also use the facilities.

  • Full GMC Registration
