Job summary
We are looking to appoint one post-CCT Senior Clinical Fellows in Paediatric orthopaedics. Based between The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital, this fellowship provides an excellent higher training opportunity in all aspects of Paediatric orthopaedics in two world renowned tertiary referral centres for trauma and elective surgery.
12-mont post, rotating between Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital for 6 months each, commencing at GOSH from July 2024 then moving to RNOH from January 2025
The successful applicants will experience the full range of paediatric orthopaedic surgery with excellent opportunities for clinical and professional development.
This post does not attract an NTN but is suitable for a candidate who has passed the FRCS (Tr & Orth) or equivalent and is looking for subspecialty experience in Paediatric Orthopaedics. Applicants must have full GMC registration with a licence to practice prior to the start of employment.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be assigned to a consultant once appointed and will work predominately with one/two consultants. It is expected that you will assist with other clinics and theatre lists as appropriate. Applicants are encouraged to discuss the timetable and duties with the current post holder and the consultants on appointment.
This timetable contains essentially all the activities currently taking place within the unit. The postholder will be encouraged to take part in all the activities offered within the department, particularly the theatre lists when clinic commitments permit.
Training received as part of the 6 month standalone post is not recognised by the SAC for Orthopaedic Surgery. It is however equivalent in content to the complementary 6m which forms part of the 12m fellowship post which is a SAC approved post.
In addition to training provided in clinics, ward rounds and in the operating theatre, other opportunities will be provided by attendance at teaching sessions. There is an induction programme for junior staff.
The clinical/radiology meetings are on Wednesday from 08.30 to 10.00am.
Additional post-op clinics are also run by the registrars.

The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital is a national referral centre for orthopaedic problems including bone tumours, spinal injuries, spinal deformity, PNI and paediatric orthopaedics. It houses the Institute of Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal science. The hospital is served by ten theatres and has 240 beds.
