Job summary

The London Spinal Cord Injury Centre is a 30-bedded Unit that provides patient focused care within a multi-professional team for patients with spinal cord injury.

We are looking for innovative and inspirational individuals to join our team in the provision of high quality care to the rehabilitation patients. As a spinal injury nurse you will be involved with the MDT, in facilitating goal planning meetings, case conferences to enable safe discharges.

As a Registered Nurse you will be responsible for supporting the ward in ensuring that our service users' needs are met through the delivery of high-quality care. As a centre of excellence, you will offer a person-centred approach to their independence and well-being. Carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision. Teach and supervise qualified and unqualified staff as well as patients and their families or carers. Maintain high standards of care within the department.

Our Nursing team consists of, B2 Health Care Assistants, B3 Senior Health Care Assistants, B3 Rehab Assistants, , B4 Registered Nursing Associates, B5 Reintegration Practitioners B5 Registered Nurses, B6 Ward sisters, B7 Clinical Nurse Managers, B7 Clinical Nurse Educators, B7 Health Coaches and a B8 Ward Matron. We offered excellent progression with the correct competency based training and academic study.

Main duties of the job

Maintain a high standard of clinical work when carrying out nursing procedures.

Responsible for the safe custody of medication, including checking and administration.

Ensure compliance with our clinical governance framework, you will motivate colleagues, champion service user safety and dignity and drive continuous improvement.

Ensure nursing care is delivered using an individualised approach, participate in the admission and discharge planning process in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team for the Spinal Injured Patient.

You will be expected to engage in the educational needs of both patients, families, carers and continue to develop and enhance your own professional development.

The role requires excellent communication skills, and the provision of excellent patient centred care, underpinned with the most relevant evidence based practice.

About us

This centre is a specialist commissioned 30 bedded Regional Rehabilitation Centre and one of only 8 centres in England. This service facilitates rehabilitation of individuals who have been recently paralysed as a result of traumatic or non-traumatic events. The service also admits individuals for tissue viability care, urology input and secondary episodes of rehabilitation.

The overarching philosophy of the specialist centre is that rehabilitation is a journey that takes years to achieve and is best delivered through lifelong interventions and learning. The MDT aim to give the patients the initial skills to return to their lives as soon as possible. The patient journey is further supported by re-admissionopportunity's, outpatient services, specialist community Liaison nursing, all to maintain good health and ongoing skill acquisition.
