Job summary

We are looking to appoint one post-CCT Clinical Fellows in Paediatric orthopaedics. Based between The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital, this fellowship provides an excellent higher training opportunity in all aspects of Paediatric orthopaedics in two world renowned tertiary referral centres for trauma and elective surgery.

There are two posts available:

. 12 month post, rotating between Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital for 6 months each, commencing at GOSH from July 2023, rotating to the RNOH in Jan 2024

The successful applicant will experience the full range of paediatric orthopaedic surgery with excellent opportunities for clinical and professional development.

This post does not attract an NTN, but is suitable for a candidate who has passed the FRCS (Tr & Orth) or equivalent, and is looking for subspecialty experience in Paediatric Orthopaedics. Applicants must have full GMC registration with a licence to practice prior to the start of employment.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will experience the full range of paediatric orthopaedic surgery. The placements provide excellent opportunities for clinical and professional development. Clinical work will include experience in regular theatre lists, clinics and multidisciplinary team meetings. There are regular departmental teaching sessions, research meetings and engagement in clinical audit.

This role requires a motivated and interested post CCT surgeon with some experience in paediatric orthopaedics wanting to improve their experience, practical skills and decision making in preparation for starting a role as a consultant paediatric orthopaedic surgeon

About us

RNOH Paediatric and Limb Reconstruction Unit

The Paediatric and Limb Reconstruction Unit provides a regional referral service for paediatric and adult congenital and acquired deformity, the sequelae of traumatic injuries and bone infection. Within the unit there are three consultants specialising in Limb Reconstruction and junior and ancillary staff to support the service. The Unit is one of the largest in Europe in lengthening nail surgery and has an excellent clinical and academic record. Within the RNOH the unit closely collaborates with the Paediatric Unit and the London Sarcoma Service. The unit has established systems for data collection and is a pioneer in research in the field with excellent links with the University of London's Institute of Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal Sciences.

Great Ormond Street Hospital

The Orthopaedic and Spinal Service consists of a 18 bed designated ward with fully trained Paediatric Orthopaedic Nursing Staff, Paediatric Orthopaedic Physiotherapists and a Plaster Technician.

The hospital is responsible predominately for elective surgery referred from secondary and tertiary centres. The post holder will be exposed to a broad spectrum of Paediatric Orthopaedic Disease. This will be both outpatient and operatively based, under consultant supervision. During the tenure, the post holder will be expected to become involved in the research activity of the department and will be encouraged to produce work leading to publication.
