Job summary

Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon working 10 PAs per week (40 hours).

Undertaking clinical duties including clinics and operating lists.

General Paediatric Orthopaedic work with an interest in hips.

Main duties of the job

Duties at the RNOH include outpatient clinic work, theatre, in-patient care, teaching and organisation and planning of lists and registrar timetables.

The new Consultant is expected to have a varied range of clinical interests to complement the skills of the existing consultant team in the paediatric department, the development of which will be supported. This includes a specialist interest in Paediatric and Adolescent hip conditions.

Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic surgeon with relevant paediatric Orthopaedic fellowship level training as detailed in the job description.

Qualifications

Essential

  • FRCS (Tr+Orth) or equivalent.
  • Entry on Specialist Register (or entry expected within six Months).
  • Fellowship-level training or at least 2 years' experience at Consultant level with a dominant paediatric orthopaedic surgery Interest/clinical commitment.
  • Lonisation certificate.

Desirable

  • A higher degree in surgical sciences.
  • Paediatric Life Support Course.

Experience

Essential

  • Subspecialty interest and Training in paediatric surgery.
  • Wide experience in paediatric orthopaedic surgery including Paediatric hip problems.
  • Specialist Registrar experience in Orthopaedic surgery leading to CCT or equivalent.

Desirable

  • Post training experience in Paediatric Hip surgery & ideally Neuromuscular hip.
  • Experience in UK Health system.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Experience in clinical and / or laboratory research.
  • Demonstration of an understanding of clinical audit.
  • Experience of the process of clinical research, including a demonstration of knowledge of ethical issues, study design, and analysis of results of research.
  • Evidence of recent publications/ research in Paediatric Trauma + Orthopaedic Surgery.

Desirable

  • Evidence of working effectively within a multi-specialist, inter- disciplinary team environment and on own initiative.
  • Evidence of having undertaken audits, which have changed clinical practice.
  • Published record of achievement in research.
  • Higher degree awarded on the basis of research personally undertaken.

  • Evidence of attendance on managerial course(s), including financial management.
