Band 6 Practice Educator Infection Prevention and Control

Job summary

The post holder will be expected to liaise appropriately with all key members of the multi-disciplinary team. In addition the post holder will be required to liaise with their peers across the Trust, Matrons, the divisional management teams and appropriate corporate division and teams.The post holder will be expected to liaise with colleagues external to the Trust and national networks as appropriate to the specialty.

Main duties of the job

To assist in providing an autonomous infection prevention and control nursing service using clinical judgement and knowledge of the specialty.? To take responsibility for own evidence based practice and implement and add to the body of knowledge that supports nursing practice within the infection prevention and control nursing service.? To support the innovation of nursing practice in infection prevention and control both within the Trust and through local networks.? To assist in the development of all staff within the multidisciplinary team, providing support, advice, formal and informal education.

Essential

  • First level registration/ RGN (A) essential
  • Appropriate teaching certificate/ qualification e.g. Mentorship and / preceptorship, teaching and assessing
  • Extensive teaching experience
  • Evidence of ongoing personal development

Desirable

  • Be prepared to work towards degree level education/ modules in infection prevention and control

Experience

Essential

  • Understanding of clinical risk, clinical governance and national benchmarks
  • Understanding of preceptorship, mentorship & staff development
  • Research appreciation and ability to influence others through research findings
  • Understanding of IPC national frameworks
  • Evidence of participation in audit and the promotion of evidence based practice
  • IT Literate in Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and use of internet

  • Able to contribute to policies and clinical protocols
  • Understanding of effective staff deployment and management of budgets
