Band 3 Maternity Support Worker - Inpatient

Job summary

The Healthcare Assistant works as part of the ward/department team under thesupervision of registered nurses and midwives and:- Participates in the delivery of patient care- Contributes towards ward/department organisation- Supports registered nurses in the provision of a safe and caringenvironmentKey working relationships:Key working relationships with all members of the multi-professional team, includingnursing and medical staff, allied health professionals and support workers.

Main duties of the job

Maintain and improve the patient's mobility using appropriate equipment andhandling techniques? Assist the patient to be as comfortable as possible, i.e., help with moving andpositioning the patient using appropriate equipment? Assist with checking pain levels and requesting pain relieving medication onpatient's behalf? Involve the patient in shared decision-making and obtain their consent beforeundertaking nursing procedures? Prepare appropriately for the activity to be undertaken? Support and encourage the patient to meet their own health and wellbeingneeds

  • Core skills level 2 Maths and English or equivalent.
  • NVQ Level 2 in Health Care OR equivalent qualification.
  • Commitment to undertake the necessary training.
  • Willingness to complete a Care Certificate programme within the first 3 months

Desirable

  • Completed Care Certificate

Skills

Essential

  • Experience of Phlebotomy (taking bloods)
  • Evidence of good written and oral communication skills.
  • Approachable manner with good interpersonal skills
  • IT / computer skills.

  • Previous experience of working with members of the public
  • Experience working in a maternity setting, undertaking a wide range of clinical commitments.
  • Knowledge of Infection Control & Safeguarding processes
  • Experience of using hospital patient record system
  • Knowledge and understanding of data protection confidentially
