Job summary
? The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs and thedevelopment, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care forcritically ill adults with supervision from senior staff.? The Post holder will develop specialist knowledge and competence incaring for critically ill adults by attending the introduction to intensive carecourse and by working with their mentors and clinical practice educators.? The post holder is expected to supervise and teach unqualified staff withthe support and supervision of more senior members of the team.? To maintain a safe clinical environment conducive to patient care.
Main duties of the job
? To carry out a thorough handover of a critically ill patient using the SBARhandover tool.? To develop skills in analysing and interpreting complex data derived frompatient monitoring and plan appropriate care with supervision of senior staff.? To undertake all nursing procedures in accordance with Trust policies andensure that these procedures and policies are adhered to.? To communicate with patients and significant others with empathy andreassurance regarding, assessment, care and treatment.? To maintain accurate and comprehensive nursing records using appropriatedocumentation.? Liaise with the multidisciplinary team and the Critical Care Outreach team toensure appropriate arrangements are in place for patients being discharged towards/referring hospitals.? Ensure safe custody and administration of drugs according to The Royal FreeNHS Trust Barnet's policy and procedures, including intra-venous medicationand epidural analgesia.? All staff will be adequately supported, appropriate training and supervision willbe given so as to ensure that staff have the knowledge, skills and resourcesto carry out care delegated to them? To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to promote good communicationand a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.? To participate in the audit of the principles of the Essence of Carebenchmarking process and implement the action plans as required.? To participate in team projects/audits as needed.
