Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and experienced therapeutic radiographer to join the Radiotherapy department at the Royal Free Hospital as a Band 7 Radiotherapy Review Specialist Radiographer for 12-months maternity leave cover. The Royal Free London is one of the largest and leading providers of cancer care in the UK.

The new post holder will have the opportunity to contribute to the holistic care of patients undergoing radiotherapy throughout the whole radiotherapy pathway. They will deliver a patient centred service, providing information, support and point of contact, as well as assessment and clinical reviewof patients during radiotherapy. The post holder shall contribute to enhancing service delivery and service development by implementing best and evidence-based practice across the Radiotherapy pathway.You will work in close collaboration with the Consultant Clinical Oncologists andbe an effective team player in the tumour specific multi-disciplinary team.

You will have exceptional clinical, organisational and management skills to participate in the MDT and create an environment in which staff and students can learn and reach their full potential.

The Royal Free Radiotherapy Department has 2 Varian TrueBeams with Aria. There is an orthovoltage unit, a Toshiba CT-scanner, Pinnacle TPS, VMAT, IGRT, SABR and respiratory gated/ motion managed radiotherapy. The department is accredited to ISO 9001:2015.

Main duties of the job

The radiotherapy review specialists are higher level practitioners who supervise allpatients undergoing radiotherapy, liaising with the relevant medical team(s) and, inparticular, working alongside the clinical nurse specialist(s) and clinical oncologistswith the cancer site specific teams. They are required:? To undertake review clinics and to be responsible for excellent standards ofpatient care throughout the radiotherapy pathway from pre to post treatment.? To work autonomously to deliver specialist clinical care appropriate to the needsof the patient group and based on principles that are research based and whichenhance the quality of patient care.? To promote an innovative and progressive attitude to the continual improvementof patient care through reviewing the evidence base and embedding this inpractice through engagement in research activities.? To act as a visible role model and expert practitioner.? Provide daily holistic assessment to patients attending for treatment andinitiate treatments according to protocols. This will include access to patients whomay need additional specialist support for problems related to radiotherapy.? Educate and inform the wider multi-disciplinary team and participate in audit andimplement any recommendations that will result in service improvements.? To be responsible for maintaining and promoting high professional standards,ensuring regard for relevant legal, ethical, and professional frameworks.
