Job summary
Chase Farm hospital has undergone a major redevelopment and a brand new hospital opened in early autumn 2018. Chase Farm is the newly elected hub for the NCL Elective Orthopaedic Centre (EOC) and is a HIMSS 7 accredited hospital and recognized as one of the most digitally advanced hospitals in the UK. We are paper-light and continually taking advantages of new and existing technologies such as EPMA electronic prescribing and administration. Barnet hospital serves the local population and carries out both elective and emergency surgery.
This is an exciting new opportunity for somebody who wishes to develop further clinically, be involved in service design and implementation and be an integral member of the EOC and general surgery team at both Barnet and Chase Farm. The EOC is a major development across NCL bringing together numerous Trusts to ensure patients requiring orthopaedic surgery are best served.
Main duties of the job
- To deliver and develop a clinical pharmacy service to the Surgical ward and HDU and theatres in the Trust in accordance with objectives set by the Principal Pharmacist -Surgery and Clinical Lead Pharmacist - Chase Farm Hospital and to deputise in their absence.
- To be responsible for the delivery of elective surgery pharmacy services to NCL Enhanced Orthopaedic Centre (EOC) based at Chase Farm Hospital.
- To have overview of the pharmacy service to the surgical wards at Barnet Hospital.
- Implementation of a pharmacist led pre-assessment clinic.
- To ensure the safe and cost-effective use of drugs and to demonstrate effective control of drug expenditure for these areas through the development of treatment guidelines. Responsible for optimising digital pathways for elective surgery and training healthcare professionals in surgery across all 3 sites.

The Pharmacy department of the Royal Free London NHS Trust is a friendly, progressive, and expanding unit dedicated to providing the highest standards of pharmaceutical care and service in this large, internationally renowned teaching hospital. Quality improvement and cost-effective, safe use of medicines is at the forefront of everything we do. We have over 300 staff working across the 3 sites in all areas of pharmacy. Pharmacy staff work across areas such as dispensary, stores, wards, outpatient clinics, satellite pharmacies, technical services, clinical trials, medicines advice service and QC.
