Job summary
North Middlesex Hospital in the Community NHS Trust are seeking to recruit an Early Years Practitioner to be part of an innovative Speech and Language project aimed at reducing inequalities in one of the most deprived areas of Enfield.
You will work as part of a small team working towards improving early communication outcomes for children and families in the Edmonton area of Enfield; delivering high quality universal and targeted health services to meet the key improvement priorities.
The role will involve working within both community settings and including family homes.
Key aspects of the role include: Supporting health promotion planning and delivery, communication assessment, multi-agency working to support children and families, supporting with delivering training. You will be supporting interventions with families and children including play, interaction and supporting children's early communication development.
Excellent communication skills and a passion for public health are essential, alongside good organisational skills, flexibility to meet the needs of the service, and ability to travel independently to meet service delivery as required.

Main duties of the job
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To undertake home visits as delegated by the Health Visitor/Speech and Language Therapist.
To assist the Health Visitor and Speech and Language Therapist to deliver a model of early prevention and intervention improve SLCN outcomes for children aged 0- 2 years old who are at risk of developing SLCN.
To support the Speech and Language Therapist with training early years professionals on how refer into the new provision.
To undertake screening and review assessments as part of this new provision and to organise and run targeted language and communication intervention groups.
To undertake other relevant duties as delegated by the Health Visitor/Speech and Language Therapist as part of this new provision.
To be familiar with Children's Centres and local programmes and facilitate and signpost parents in accessing the Children Centre services and Community Services as well as other local initiatives to support with speech and language promotion and development.
To promote early speech and language development and encourage the development of children's play, language and communication through direct and indirect work and partnership with parents/carers and children.
To act as a source of information for parents and professionals about the referral pathways to the core speech and language therapy services.
To be aware of the child's individual circumstances and adapt appropriately.

Many of our patients live in wards that are within the 5% most deprived in the UK and a large proportion of our patients were born abroad. This makes it both a fascinating and a challenging hospital to work in.
The Community division comprises of the 0-19 Service, Health Visitor and School Nursing services, that deliver the Healthy Child Programme. As well as a BCG clinic for targeted babies and Canterbury ward, that supports the acute wards.
