Dermatology Band 7 Skin Cancer CNS

The Dermatology service is seeking to recruit a highly motivated individual to deliver exceptional care for patients within the Skin Cancer service. The Nurse Specialist is fundamental to the service, providing bespoke nursing care for patients and their families.

You will work closely with and be supported by the existing Clinical Nurse Specialists and the medical team. The Skin Cancer CNS will be expected to work autonomously and undertake Nurse Led out-patient clinics. Including photodynamic therapy, topical treatment clinic, and pigmented lesion clinic. The Clinical Nurse Specialist will also be responsible for the delivery of diagnosis and will be expected to facilitate patient education, to enable a clear understanding of the diagnosis and assist the patient in making informed treatment decisions. Effective communication skills and sensitivity in breaking bad news is essential to this role.

Multidisciplinary team working is key, and you will work closely with the maxillofacial teams, Radiotherapy and Plastics, across the trust and affiliated hospitals. You will require a high level of understanding of each speciality.

Although working hours are generally office hours, flexibility and willingness to travel cross site is required.

As this is a unique position, we would strongly encourage an informal visit.

Main duties of the job

To work autonomously, undertaking nurse led clinics within the skin cancer service.

To attend weekly multidisciplinary team meetings, ensuring outcomes are met within an appropriate time frame.

Able to work as a safe practitioner, working within limitations and seeking appropriate expertise when required.

Independently manage and be responsible for a cohort of patients.

Support and provide teaching to junior members of the team.
