Job summary
This is a full time (10 programmed activities) post based at the Royal Free NHS London Foundation Trust's (RFL) Plastic Surgery department. The department is a busy, dynamic unit that provides carefor the local population in North Central London, and to a much larger network around the rest of North London and the home counties.
The department has a strong reputation for provision ofpatientcare in breast reconstruction, skin malignancy, hand surgery, facial palsy, sarcoma reconstruction, ear reconstruction and abdominal wall reconstruction. The unit offers support to various specialties at RFL and across our wider network. The unit has strong academic links and a large well-established MSc program.
The postholder will also partly work across the Dermatology department at RFH. The dermatology service functions as a multi-disciplinary team working across the three major Trust sites (Royal Free, Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals). The RFL comprises a large specialist skin cancer unit and tertiary referral centre, able to provide specialist treatment for various skin cancers.
This post will focus on delivering patient-centred care across the Royal Free Hospital, Chase Farm Hospital, Luton and Dunstable University Hospital and the wider network. The workload includes complex microvascular reconstruction (including breast and lower limb reconstruction), Mohs' Surgery and reconstruction and joint working in the skin cancer service There is an on-call commitment with this post.

The post will involve aspecialist interest in breast surgery, skin cancer, and microsurgery. A higherdegree would be an advantage as the department builds on its research base.The nature of central and peripheral network commitments will be subject to review and modification as the service develops and evolves and a flexible approach to job planning is essential.
Responsibility for policy and service development: He or she will also beexpected to actively engage with clinical commissioning group colleagues and7colleagues around our clinical network with a view to strengthening theprovision of the plastic surgery service and our network. The postholder will be expected to take an active and engaged role indepartmental management and academic responsibilities as allocated byagreement across the department. Be a member of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Specialty Care Group.He/she will work in an integrated way with other members of the department.Clinical and administrative work and junior staff will be shared with otherconsultants. Participate in a strong undergraduate teaching programme in Plastic Surgery.The postholder will be involved in undergraduate University College London(UCL) medical student teaching at the Royal Free, including allocation ofstudents to clinics, small group lecturing and organisation of staffing forobserved structured clinical examinations (OSCEs). The postholder would beexpected to interact regularly with the Medical School.
Contribution to postgraduate teaching and training of junior staff is alsoexpected. The successful applicant will engage fully and proactively in clinical governanceactivities, including clinical audit, and the Trusts clinical governance systems. Support infection prevention & control and antimicrobial stewardship activities. Participate in laboratory and clinical audit. Participate in service development and policy review. Participate in CPD and quality assurance activity including annual appraisal andrevalidation. The trust fully supports staff in CPD and revalidation and has ahighly successful postgraduate medical education department. Mentoring bysenior colleagues is available to all members of the team. Share in the assessment and introduction of new methods and in planning staffand equipment requirements.
