Band 6 Trainee Mammographer - North London Breast Screening

Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust

The closing date is 17 October 2024

Job summary

The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is the host trust for the North London Breast Screening Service (NLBSS), Central and East London Breast Screening Service (CELBSS) and the London Administration Hub.

We are currently inviting applications from enthusiastic radiographers who are looking to expand into mammography. The North London Breast Screening Service has 2 full time vacant training mammographer posts.

This very busy service offers the opportunity to work in both static and mobile screening sites and screening assessment clinics on a rotational basis. The 3 static sites are at Edgware Community Hospital, Finchley Memorial and Northwick Park Hospital. The area covered includes Barnet, Brent, Enfield, Haringey, Harrow, and parts of Hertfordshire. This post necessitates travel across this area and therefore the use of a car and a current driving licence is desirable. The static and mobile units have the latest digital equipment. The assessment unit has state of the art equipment including a 3D Dimensions prone biopsy table and 3D Dimensions Tomosynthesis units.

Due to the sensitive nature of this post, only female applicants can be considered, under Section 7 (2) (b) of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975.

Main duties of the job

There are many challenges to the post. You will be required to work alongside the team delivering the service; maintain a good working relationship with clinical users in a sometimes pressured environment. You will attend academic block week and or day release to complete the course. You will be working within the clinical team whilst training to undertake screening mammography in accordance with the NHS Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP) standards.

Our team consists of Advanced Practitioners, Interventional Radiographers, Mammographers, Trainee Mammographers, Assistant Practitioners, Associate Practitioners and Associate Practitioners carrying out the Apprenticeship.

The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust utilises a four tier mammography team structure including all levels of practitioners whilst actively encouraging CPD and personal development.
