Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic cardiologist with a specialist interest in EP and Devices to join the team at the Royal Free London NHS Trust.

This post is predominantly based at the Barnet hospital although there may be opportunities to work cross-site and also to further develop sub-speciality interests dependent on the applicant and needs of our served population which includes regional and national services.

Significantly the post holder will contribute to the electrophysiology service and the simple & complex pacing service offered at the Trust through outpatient clinic work, inpatient patient review, MDTs and through cardiac catheter laboratory.

There is no general medicinecomponent to this job. A higher degree is desirable, and the successful candidate will be encouraged to participate in research and teaching.

Main duties of the job

About us

The Royal Free Heart Centre provides a comprehensive range of general and specialist cardiology services, serving both a secondary and tertiary role for patients in the North Central London sector. The cardiology unit comprises a seven bedded Coronary Care Unit and a designated cardiology ward (twenty beds) plus any inpatients on other wards being looked after by the consultants concerned. There is a dedicated diagnostic department providing a full range of non-invasive investigations, two new cardiac catheter laboratories and a day case coronary interventional unit (10 beds).

The department receives elective and non-elective referrals from the locality and from district general hospitals in the North Central Sector. On 1st July 2014 the Royal free acquired Barnet & Chase Farm hospitals. The department is now fully integrated across the sites with cross site working.

1. Clinical Responsibilities

To provide overall care for patients referred to and cared for by the cardiology services including inpatient, outpatient and community services at Barnet and the Royal Free, to support the development of a robust MDT oversight regime, to support the nursing and administration teams in delivering safe care and to support research in this field.

It is specifically anticipated that with their colleagues the post holder will provide the following services:

Support the department in expanding its EP and Devices service through Outpatient Clinics, MDTs, Inpatient reviews and Cath lab activity.

Contribute to the general cardiology at the Royal Free and Barnet sites as Consultant of The Week providing daily CCU and cardiology routine and post-take ward rounds and providing a consult service for the acute medical take. Time will be given in lieu for working bank holidays

Support the department undergraduate teaching and educational supervision

Participate in regular cardiology MDT.
