Job summary
The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest and busiest Trusts in England, with a well-established national and international reputation for clinical excellence and world class care. We deliver care to more than 1.6 million people a year through our three main hospitals: Barnet Hospital, Chase Farm Hospital and The Royal Free Hospital. Annually, the Trust receives one of the highest numbers of referrals for suspected cancer in England, we have invested heavily in diagnostics and established a straight to test pathway for suspected GI cancers and have a Rapid Diagnostic Centre (RDC) at The Royal Free Hospital. We have infusion units to treat cancer patients at The Royal Free, Finchley Memorial and Chase Farm Hospitals. We are a European Centre of Excellence for Neuroendocrine Tumours and tertiary referral centre for the surgical management of Colo-rectal liver metastases and Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary Cancers. The Trust is one of highest volume providers of colorectal cancer care within London, with plans to expand the service further. For oesophago-gastric cancers the Trust works closely with University College Hospital where upper GI surgery is undertaken but all other oncology treatments are provided by the Royal Free London.
Main duties of the job
The core responsibilities of the post holder will be as follows:
Clinical:
o Ensure that current RFL systemic anti-cancer treatments (SACT) treatment pathways for GI cancer patients are maintained across RFL
o Ensure that the GI oncology outpatient activity is maintained on the Royal Free and Chase Farm sites
o Ensure robust oncology leadership for the expanding colorectal oncology service
o Support the NET clinic and provide cross cover
o Ensure that core membership of Trust-wide upper GI and colorectal MDMs to meet peer review requirement is maintained
o Support patient choice by enabling Chase Farm patients to have their cancer treatment at Chase Farm
o Support the Trust delivery of the 62 day Cancer Waiting Time operational standard
o Support and participate in the consultant led inpatient oncology attending system on the Hampstead site (frequency 1:18), to facilitate patient flow, admission avoidance, patient safety and the emergency pathway.
