Job summary

The post holder will be expected to liaise appropriately with all key members of the multi-disciplinary team and service users of the Patient at Risk and Resuscitation team. In addition, the post holder will be required to liaise with their peers across the Trust, nurse consultants, divisional directors of nursing, the divisional management team and appropriate corporate directorates and teams.

Main duties of the job

  • To operationally lead and manage the Patient at Risk team, and the Trust Resuscitation Service to provide clinical expertise, using advanced clinical judgment, in the care and management of acutely unwell patients leading the medical emergency team response as appropriate.
  • To take responsibility for own evidence based practice and implement and add to the body of knowledge that supports clinical practice related to acutely unwell patients within the trust, nationally and internationally.
  • To lead and innovate nursing, allied health care professional & medical practice in the specialty of resuscitation and patients at risk to ensure all trust staff are best prepared to manage life threatening emergencies encountered during the course of their work within the Trust and provide educational support for health care professionals and non-medical health care professionals external to the trust, i.e. other acute trusts and PCT's.
  • To lead and promote educational strategies for professionals groups with regard to assessment, care and management of patients at risk from critical illness and becoming acutely unwell and the further care and management of the acutely unwell patient, particularly those discharged from intensive care and those requirement rehabilitation.

  • RGN or equivalent
  • Post-registration critical care and teaching and assessing or equivalent relevant courses
  • Degree/Diploma level education in progress / achieved

Desirable

  • Master's level education in progress/achieved
  • Accredited resuscitation Instructor
  • Management qualification

Experience

  • Extensive acute experience ideally critical care experience

  • Team leadership experience
  • Strategic planning experience2
