Job summary

The Royal Free Hospital Intensive Care Department is looking for a motivated Senior Clinical Fellow who has an interest in Education and Simulation to enhance our current teaching and training programme.

This post would be ideal for a candidate wishing to gain experience in Intensive care medicine and the recognition and management of the critically ill patient. You will be well supported by our dedicated team of ICU Consultants.

The total throughput of patients is in excess of 2,000 per year. Senior medical cover is provided by a large team of consultants, who provide a 24-hour cover worked in blocks to provide continuity of care.

We would welcome candidates who have at least two years of accredited core medical or anaesthetic training to the level of CT2 or equivalent. Candidates will be expected to have passed the MRCP examination or the Primary FRCA. Applicants should be able to demonstrate an interest in medical education and previous experience in intensive care medicine is essential.

Main duties of the job

The Royal Free Hospital Intensive Care Department is looking for a motivated Senior Clinical Fellow who has an interest in Education and Simulation to enhance our current teaching and training programme.

The post is best suited for the following candidates:-

  1. ICM or Anaesthetic Trainees looking to take time out of programme
  2. Post CCT Trainees looking to develop their experience in clinical education
  3. Doctors considering a stand alone senior clinical fellow post with an interest in Medical Education.

Trainees considering an out of programme experience would need agreement with the relevant Specialty Training Committee and Deanery

The post is for 12 months, commencing August 2023 and is based at the Royal Free Hospital site. It would comprise 50% teaching activities and 50% clinical work on the ICU. For those committing to the 12 month post of we would be keen to support study towards a Post-Graduate qualification in Education. Post-Graduate education is a key priority for the department with over 100 doctors in training working in our ICU every year. There is a small group of Consultants with a special interest in Education and Training. There is a dedicated teaching programme which delivers ICU teaching weekly on a broad range of topics, ICU Radiology teaching and ICU Journal Club.
