Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to come and join our amazing AAU team.

The applicant needs to have experience in working in an emergency / acute environment, have good organisational skills, be adaptable and enjoy working in a busy environment.

Main duties of the job

The post holder must be patient focused with good communication skills and have an interest in working with multi speciality adult patients, and experience in communicating with patients who may be under duress due to their health.

A good foundation of clinical skills is required, recording observations, performing phlebotomy, cannulation and simple dressings with a willingness to learn new skills as well as supporting patients with their mobility, hygiene and care needs as required.

They must be an excellent team player, working alongside the medical, nursing, therapy and administrative staff but be able to use their initiative and know the limitations of their role and when to escalate to the nurse in charge. Their role will involve them supporting these clinicians as a chaperone, assisting in procedures, dressings and accompanying patients to investigations.

Basic computer skills is essential and experience with the hospital computer systems - Cerner-is desirable but training can be provided so they can support the administrative team in busy times

The post holder will be expected to liaise appropriately with all key members of the multi-disciplinary team and service users related to AAU.

  • The post holder is to act as a support worker within the multi-disciplinary team, under the direction of the qualified practitioners.
  • The post holder is expected to help provide a safe and comfortable environment for patients.
  • Undertake baseline observations i.e. blood pressure, temperature, pulse, oxygen saturations, respiratory rate and blood glucose monitoring (following appropriate training).
  • Undertake venepuncture, including cannulation of patients.
  • Perform urinalysis and pregnancy testing and report findings to requesting practitioner (following appropriate training).
  • Perform E.C.G. recordings and report back to the requesting practitioner (following appropriate training).
  • Be aware of the responsibilities placed upon you under the Health & Safety at work act (1974), and to ensure that agreed safety procedures are carried out to maintain a safe environment for employees, service users and visitors.
  • The post holder will be courteous and helpful to patients and their families, staff and all visitors to the department. He/she will respond promptly to all requests from all members of staff in AAU.
  • To demonstrate an understanding of and adhere to the Trusts safeguarding procedures.
