Job summary
Applications are invited for a 10 PAs Consultant post in General and Emergency Surgery at Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust based on the Barnet site who will lead on Day Case Surgery.Applications are encouraged for those with special interests in:
- Day Case Surgery
- Laparoscopic Surgery
- Endoscopy
- Gall Bladder
- Emergency General Surgery
There will be a 1 in 12 on call and a 1 in 6 Surgeon of the Week rota.
Main duties of the job
- Lead on Day Case Surgery and work with NCL on expanding this service.
- Work as an Emergency General Surgeon and to be involved in a sub-specialist area of surgerythat will complement the interests of the department.
- Provide hands on clinical leadership to the emergency general surgery pathway operating inaccordance with the operational policy.
- Contribute to teaching, including undergraduate teaching, and the teaching and professionaldevelopment of junior medical staff.
- Share in the general administrative and management responsibilities of the departments andparticipate in the R & D programmes of the department.
- Work with the existing consultants and colleagues in management
- Support infection prevention & control and antimicrobial stewardship activities.
- Participate in the supervision and training of specialty trainees and clinical scientists, teaching of other junior trainees, medical students and hospital staff as appropriate.
- Participate in clinical audit and quality improvement Participate in service development andpolicy review.
- Participate in CPD and quality assurance activity including annual appraisal and revalidation.
Some roles and responsibilities will change depending on the experience and interests of the appointee. A job plan must be agreed between the successful appointee and clinical lead in accordance with Schedule 3 of the Terms and Conditions - Consultants (England) 2003.
