Job summary
An opening has arisen within the ENT-head and neck nursing team for the Royal Free NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for an experiencedregistered nurse to take a Band 7 Senior Sister / Charge Nurse post in ENT-head and neck based mainly at the Barnet 'hot' site with a requirement to support at the Chase Farm weekly head and neck MDT sessional day and occasionally at the Royal Free site.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to lead on general ENT-head and neck nursing including taking an active role in altered airway patient management, post operative care, ear care and thyroid clinics. You must be confident and motivated to undertake hands on clinical work and have evidence of continuing professional and personal development. Possessing excellent communication and people management skills will allow close working with individuals and teams to develop and maintain the established ways of working. A dedication to providing a high standard of service and a flexibility to cover needs of service will ensure success and fulfilment in working for the Trust.
The post is full time (37.5 hours) and covers 5 days of service Monday to Friday. There is no requirement to work UK public bank holidays.
About us
To support you in this role there is an experienced Band 7 Macmillan clinical nurse specialist (CNS) and 1-2 band 6 ENT specialist nurses. You will be a key member of the Trust ENT-head and neck multidisciplinary team supporting your colleagues and patients with day-to-day clinic activities, the emergency pathway and as part of the agreed cancer pathways. There will be a requisite to undertake nurse led clinics within the speciality.
Candidates will be required to give a 10-minute PowerPoint presentation on the day of interview and the subject will be given once interview time confirmed.

- The post holder will be expected to liaise appropriately with all key members of the multi-disciplinary team and service users related to the speciality.
- To be responsible for all aspects of patient care including the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of direct patient care.
- Work autonomously in providing all relevant forms of advanced nursing care for ENT patients in both the Outpatients department and in-patient setting.
- Have an active role in setting and implementing standards of patient care in the ENT clinic and in-patient areas.
- Have an active role in implementing and maintaining standards for ENT endoscopes management and traceability.
- After appropriate training, run ENT Nurse led clinics for minor procedures such as micro suction.
- After appropriate training run Nurse Led clinic for laryngectomy patients.
- Work in close association with the ENT Medical Consultant team.
- Work with senior medical and nursing staff to guide and support junior members of the nursing and medical teams in the ENT clinic and ward environment to ensure standards are maintained at optimal levels.
- Take an active role in the support and management of patients with a tracheostomy.
