Applications are invited for a 10 PA Substantive Consultant post in Emergency Medicine at Barnet Hospital after agreement of the job plan there is scope to extend DCCs ( total number of offered PAs will be between 11PAs -12PAs).

Main duties of the job
Our Trust in North London provides a full range of acute hospital services including ED at Barnet Hospital.
We have a modern department seeing in excess of 123,000 new patients pa, with 25% being paediatric. There is a resus room, Paediatric ED, CT scanner in-house dedicated to emergency work, CDU and PAU.
We are established for 10 ED consultants and are looking for an enthusiastic colleague to work with us to build on the existing strengths of the department.

Job responsibilities
- In conjunction with the existing consultants, to organize the reception, resuscitation, investigation, diagnosis and initial treatment of all patients.
- To ensure the successful operation of agreed policies, procedures and guidelines in the treatment and management of all patients in the department.
- To help construct policies, procedures and guidelines for the successful and efficient operation of the department. It is accepted that these policies will have to be reviewed and updated on a regular basis. All consultants will be expected to have equal input into this.
- With the existing consultant to help continue to develop and implement medical audit and carry forward the Trust clinical governance agenda.
- Consultants will work closely to develop an agreed rota to ensure an appropriate level of clinical input at consultant level in the department and in conjunction with existing consultants to organize duties.
- The appointee will participate in the on call rota (including prospective cover) covering Barnet ED out of hours.
- The appointee will work scheduled weekend (prospectively covered).
- All ED consultants will be on a rota as designated medical controller in relation to the hospitals major incident procedure. The major incident procedure plans are being constantly updated and all consultants will be expected to take part in any amendments that might be necessary.
Teaching is regarded as one of the most important duties of the post. There is in-house 4 monthly new junior doctors induction programme and there is protected time teaching programme each week. The organization of these weekly tutorials and induction will be the responsibility of all consultants.
