The post holder will join a thriving Diabetes and Endocrinology team, with existing sub-speciality interests, as a 10PA locum consultant. They will cover outpatient clinics in diabetes whilst supporting the management of inpatient diabetes. The post holder will be based predominantly at the Royal Free Hospital. The post provides an excellent opportunity to join a successful Diabetes and Endocrinology department providing a responsive service to admitted patients with Diabetes.
Main duties of the job
The Diabetes team provide a comprehensive, predominantly outpatient-based service, to a local catchment area which now spans Camden and Barnet CCGs (approximate population 550,000) within diabetes, and there is a special interest in the intensive management of Type I diabetes. The department is part of the successful integrated practice unit model with Camden allowing for the provision of community diabetes sessions at consultant levels. There is also a system of interface clinics with nephrology and obstetrics. It is estimated that 25% of inpatients at the Royal Free have diabetes mellitus, and a specialised in-patient service has developed to ensure that patients are clinically reviewed in a timely fashion.
