Job summary

As the seniornurseclinician in the Division and Medicine and Urgent Care theConsultantNursewill be responsible for developing and leading nursing and advanced practice and standards. Working with others in the team, theConsultantNursewill have the authority and freedom to develop and lead advanced practice and research within the departments. They will practice clinically up to 50% of their time.

They will also work collaboration with the Clinical Director, Clinical Leads,NurseDirector and DivisionalDirector of Nursing, theConsultantNursewill support the development of clinical strategy for Acute and Emergency Care to enable the team to deliver timely, clinically effective patient care that meets national standards

Main duties of the job

  • To support the Divisional Director of Nursing in the clinical nursing leadership of the Division.
  • Lead advanced nursing and other non-medical practice across the Acute and Emergency Medicine including development of advanced practice roles.
  • Work with all stakeholders to develop clinical pathways internally and externally across all specialities.
  • Work as part of the senior clinical team to deliver key clinical standards.
  • Support theNurseDirector to develop strong leadership and managerial process to deliver high quality care across the Group.
  • Work with the Matrons, Divisional Director of Nursing and Clinical Educators, supporting on educational development for nursing and engagement of the multi-professional workforce across the specialties.
  • Where necessary, in the absence of the Matron or Divisional Director of Nursing , provide operational support within the Division.

Provide leadership advice and support on clinical governance issues, including clinical and non-clinical risk assessment and management

To recognise the limits of own clinical knowledge and skills and to seek medical support whenever needed to provide safe, effective, and timely patient care. Taking account of national policy, to ensure that core, specialist, and advanced specialist Emergency Care Nursing practice is developed to meet service need, through the use of research and evidenced based practice, ensuring they are linked to the clinical governance and patient safety agendas. Direct and support nursing staff in their commitment to advancing nursing / clinical practice through the use of research and the implementation of evidence-based practice. To develop nurse led ambulatory Emergency Care Nursing care in collaboration with medical and multi-disciplinary colleagues. Advise and support colleagues where standard protocols do not apply demonstrating innovative and visionary practice backed up by relevant education and training plans. To be an authoritative expert assessor/adviser on the management psychological/spiritual/social practical and ethical needs of Emergency Care Nursing patients and to work in partnership with a range of health professionals to improve skills in these areas. Develop and maintain evidence-based guidelines.
