Job summary

The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled professional person to join the award-winning bereavement, medical examiner & mortuary services team as the Mortuary Manager. Are you seeking a challenging leadership role where you can uphold and enhance the care, we provide to all our deceased patients and our bereaved, ensure the efficient operational running of two large mortuaries and lead a team of technicians and technologists to uphold exceptional practices and exceed expectations? As the Mortuary Manager, you will oversee and contribute to the day-to-day operations of our mortuary facilities at both Royal Free Hospital and Barnet Hospital, ensuring the efficient and respectful handling of our deceased patients. You will lead a team of dedicated staff and work closely with funeral directors, bereavement service teams and bereavement midwives to deliver exceptional service to all concerned. As well as patient care, you will lead in the management of fail-safe running of the facilities and all equipment. Your expertise, skill and experience will also enable you to lead and partake in the post-mortem service at the Trust and be a principal developer and provider of ongoing education and training across the Trust as needed.

Main duties of the job

Manage all aspects of the mortuary, including staffing, scheduling, facilities, equipment and budgeting for both Trust mortuaries. Line-manage the team members, ensuring supportive and clear Comply with regulations including HTA, RCPath, HM Coroner and local Trust frameworks Lead care of all deceased patients, presentation of the deceased for viewings, maintaining the highest standards of care and dignity. Respond to incidents, complaints/concerns. Lead safe storage, release, and transportation of deceased patients. Implement and maintain accurate and updated procedures, training records and protocols and maintain adherence to and control of these documents using the Trust systems. Provide training, guidance, and support to the mortuary team, and more widely with the bereavement, medical examiner and clinical teams (nursing and medical) fostering a positive and collaborative work environment that upholds high-level accurate and compliant methodology and compassion. Collaborate with funeral directors and bereavement services to ensure seamless coordination and delivery of services. Communicate empathetically and professionally with bereaved families, always ensuring clarity and kindness. Respond to enquiries from all stakeholders and respond to FOI and other suitable requests for information, guidance and support. Maintain and update inventory of equipment, supplies, and resources necessary for mortuary operations.
