Main duties of the job

This is an exciting time to be part of a great vascular team operating within the NCL sector, innovating vascular care for all our patients. We are looking for an exceptional leader and consultant colleague to be part of our team for a fixed term for 12 months'.

This is a fixed term locum (10 programmed activities) post to join the endovascular and vascular programme which is based in the vascular surgery department at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. This consultant will become a member of the general vascular team and will be involved in building on the successes of the service to date and in the delivery of our future goals.

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • On the specialist register of the General Medical Council (GMC) for Vascular Surgery; or registered with the GMC and within 6 months (at the scheduled time of the advisory appointments committee) of being accepted for the specialist register
  • Fellowship / Membership of Royal College of Surgeons or equivalent
  • Further training in complex aortic surgery

Desirable

  • Postgraduate medical degree
  • Training in appraisal techniques
  • Management course

Experience / Knowledge

Essential

  • A national profile in clinical excellence and research output
  • Comprehensive training in general vascular surgery in dedicated units including experience of EVAR
  • Wide range of knowledge and experience of vascular surgery including open and endovascular AAA
  • Experience in endovascular and open deep venous interventions
  • Ability to stent acute aortic aneurysm ruptures, where appropriate
  • Facility with complex aortic repair
  • Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding role for audit in improving medical practice
  • Understanding of clinical risk management and clinical governance
  • Research experience, including presentations to relevant societies
  • Peer reviewed publications in indexed journals

Desirable

  • Clinical guideline development
  • Research experience in venous diseases
  • Peer publication in topic related to venous disease
