Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and enthusiastic Senior Research Physiotherapist (0.85 WTE band 7) to join our Liver service. The Senior Research Physiotherapy post is focused on delivering pre-habilitation and rehabilitation to a large caseload of patients waiting for and undergoing liver transplantation as part of the EXaLT clinical trial. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who wishes to develop their research skills and broaden their experience working within this specialty area. We would also welcome applicants who are at a senior B6 level and would like to undertake this position as a B6-B7 development trainee post. This would be suitable for someone who has excellent inpatient physiotherapy and rehabilitation skills but who may not have worked with liver transplant patients previously and / or has only had limited experience of research.

Main duties of the job

The successful individual will be responsible for the specialist assessment and individualised treatment of patients as part of a large dual-centred NIHR EME Grant funded Randomised Control Trial. You will deliver and coordinate the intervention/control exercise programme and perform muscle ultrasound on a substudy of patients whilst liaising closely with the research team as well as with wider healthcare professionals. The lead site for this study is Birmingham University Hospital which will provide specialist training, delivered by world leading experts, within the research team there. You will work closely with the principal investigator Dr Melikian (consultant anaesthetist), the other B7 physio working in this role, the research assistants supporting this study and a Medical Clinical Research Fellow, to ensure all necessary outcomes are collated and recorded. In addition, you will have a close working relationship with the therapy services team involved in the care patients with liver disease.
