Job summary
We are excited to welcome an enthusiastic and motivated Deputy Ward Manager to join our friendly and dynamic team on the Surgical Assessment Unit.
Our 17-bed unit, with an additional four assessment chairs, specialises in caring for patients presenting with a wide range of emergency surgical and urology conditions. We work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure every patient receives safe, effective, and compassionate care from admission through to discharge.
This is a fast-paced and rewarding environment, managing acute admissions from the Emergency Department, GPs, and post-operative wards. You'll play a key role in supporting the Ward Manager, leading by example, and helping to drive high standards of care and staff development across the unit.

Main duties of the job
You will need to be a motivated team orientated professional with a passion for delivering high standards of nursing care in an ever changing environment and work within a multi professional team; it is essential you communicate effectively within this environment and act in line with the wards philosophy.
You will have previous experience in a Senior Staff Nurse post or previous deputy ward manager experience.
You be will be required to manage the ward in the absence of the Ward Manager and be able to communicate effectively to all levels. Key elements include; strong professional leadership qualities, which is critical to delivering the high standard of care our trust requires, passion to be able to motivate and increase staff morale and ability to change so to manage and encourage a learning environment.
Dealing with day to day issues that may arise such as Patient flow, staff sickness, roster management, mitigation, complaints, incidents, tendable audits, etc. You will also be expected to support the ward manager with governance issues, training and incident management.
