We are pleased to invite applications for a 12-month Fixed Term Consultant Cardiologist post with a specialist interest in Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI). This full-time (10 PA) post supports the growing demand for complex interventional cardiology services across the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust and Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH).
You will play a key role in the delivery and development of our Interventional Cardiology service, contributing to the full range of advanced interventional techniques and participating in the Primary PCI on-call rota (currently 1:12). The post will also involve general cardiology work.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established, forward-thinking cardiology team, working collaboratively with Consultants, Cardiac Nurse Specialists, Clinical Physiologists, and wider multi-disciplinary colleagues across the Trust.
Provisional Job Plan (Full-Time Contract)Direct Clinical Care: 8.5 PAs per week (average)Includes: clinical activities, related administrative duties, and both predictable and unpredictable emergency work
Supporting Professional Activities: 1.5 PAs per week (average)Includes: Continuing Professional Development (CPD), audit, teaching, training, research and service development
Additional payment for on-call duties will be determined once the job plan is finalised, if applicable to the role.
Main duties of the job
Deliver a full range of complex interventional cardiology procedures, including participation in the Primary PCI rota
Contribute to the inpatient care of up to 28 beds on Roding Ward, including emergency admissions
5 weeks of Harlow Consultant of the Week (CoW) cover per year, with no CTC on-call responsibilities during CoW weeks
Includes a Thursday session at the CTC during CoW week
Weekly activity at PAH to include:
1 outpatient clinic
1 cardiac catheter lab session (diagnostic coronary angiography)
Input into the local MDT meetings
Education, Research, and DevelopmentYou will be expected to:
Contribute to the teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and trainees
Participate in clinical audits, service evaluation, and quality improvement initiatives
Support and engage with ongoing research projects within the department and wider Trust
Engage with and contribute to departmental and Trust-wide CPD activities, including appraisal and revalidation
