Unit Manager

Job summary

We are looking for an experienced Unit Manager to join our team and take responsibility for the management and clinical leadership of the ophthalmology services within Broomfield Hospital.

You will ensure high standards of care through effective management of staff by leading the team, organising others in their actions and setting priorities.

Main duties of the job

  • To practice autonomously with a high level of accountability at an advanced clinical level in the direct delivery of high-quality care, making critical clinical decisions based on advanced clinical skills assessment.
  • Work autonomously, be responsible for a caseload of patients to deliver high quality skilled, evidence based and patient centered care supported by departmental Standard Operating Procedures, policies and guidelines.
  • To participate and be involved in nurse led innovations such as carrying out nursing extended roles, such as nurse led clinic, counselling and consenting patients for investigative procedures . Collaborate with the multi-professional team.
  • To contribute to service developments and the development of nurse led initiatives in liaison with the clinical leads /matron /service manager/ unit manager.
  • To plan, develop, formulate and review nurse led protocols, guidelines and Patient Group Directions specific to the service.
  • To develop the service to reflect the needs of the MSE Service, staff and patient group by a regular assessment of the service provided by the unit.
  • Ensure the effective deployment of manpower and resources, reporting deficiencies/variances to the Ophthalmology Manager
