Job summary

The Security / Parking Team provide a comprehensive car park and security service to the Hospital and Satellite sites in all weather and conditions.

You will have a great deal of contact with staff, visitors and members of the public, directing drivers to car parking spaces, clearing entrances for fire calls, responding to all security issues, answering general enquiries and enforcing the Trust Car Parking Policy.

A multi task approach is essential to greet, assist and direct patients, visitors and public in a courteous and professional manner. Some responsibilities will include 1:1's with level 4 patients who might be at risk or who have the potential to be violent.

In this front line service the post holder will need to be polite, helpful, tactful but firm and remain calm under pressure.

Main duties of the job

1. To carry out regular and ad-hoc patrols both internally and externally. Patrol all car parks regularly within the Hospital grounds ensuring that the Trust Car Parking Policy is applied.

2. To work effectively as a lone officer and or as a member of a team of officers.

3. To provide a service that will protect, advise, investigate and take action to create and maintain a safe, secure environment for patients, public and staff at all times.

4. To take actions in accordance with Trust policies and procedures to protect the wellbeing of all persons on site and protect property and premises.

5. Prevent crime and loss.

6. To respond to all security and car park alerts or calls for assistance received by radio, pager, or through sound of intruder alarms.

7. To keep the Department Manager and callers informed where there will be delays in response to non-urgent calls for assistance.

8. To deal with emergencies outside normal hours by liaising with Site Coordinator and On-Call Facilities Manager as appropriate.

9. To greet, assist and direct patients, relatives and staff in a courteous, helpful and professional manner at all times.

Job responsibilities

1. To carry out regular and ad-hoc patrols both internally and externally. Patrol all car parks regularly within the Hospital grounds ensuring that the Trust Car Parking Policy is applied.

2. To work effectively as a lone officer and or as a member of a team of officers.

3. To provide a service that will protect, advise, investigate and take action to create and maintain a safe, secure environment for patients, public and staff at all times.

4. To take actions in accordance with Trust policies and procedures to protect the wellbeing of all persons on site and protect property and premises.

5. Prevent crime and loss.

6. To respond to all security and car park alerts or calls for assistance received by radio, pager, or through sound of intruder alarms.

7. To keep the Department Manager and callers informed where there will be delays in response to non-urgent calls for assistance.

8. To deal with emergencies outside normal hours by liaising with Site Coordinator and On-Call Facilities Manager as appropriate.

9. To greet, assist and direct patients, relatives and staff in a courteous, helpful and professional manner at all times.

10. To assist and direct drivers to car parking spaces within the Hospital site.

11. To promote the Trust Policies.

12. To issue infringement notices to staff, patients and public who contravene the Car Parking Policy or where vehicles are causing an obstruction or are blocking emergency access routes.

13. To ensure that all barriers within the site are in good and safe working order, reporting faults to the department Supervisor/Manager.

14. To check that pay and display machines are functioning correctly including re-stocking tickets and reporting faults to the Supervisor/ Manager.

15. To assist with the emptying of cash from machines on a regular basis in accordance with Trust cash handling procedures, assisting with parking fee collection, counting and distribution.

16. To undertake duties in a courteous and helpful manner referring verbal complaints and unresolved car park issues to Peers as appropriate.

17. To monitor vehicle security

18. To comply with all Trust Policies and Procedures including Health and Safety and attend training sessions as prescribed or agreed through staff appraisal.

19. To attend any relevant training including Trust mandatory training, training specific to the post and any personal development training.

20. To operate a Security CCTV control room

21. To monitor CCTV cameras when directed and be fully conversant with the CCTV system including playback methods, record keeping, Data Protection issues and all policies and procedures.

22. To undertake operational duties as specified in site emergency policies and procedures, including fire, major incident, bomb threat, baby/child abduction, missing persons.

23. Any other duties that may be required from time to time in the operation of the department service and to have a totally flexible approach to the department duties including shift patterns and locations.

24. To assist with restraining violent persons in accordance with training and procedures, ensuring that an incident report is completed to record actions and witnesses.

25. To maintain a clean, smart appearance, wearing uniform, personal protective clothing and ID badge supplied at all times whilst on duty.

26. To comply with the Non jewellery H&S issues.

27. To complete a daily log, including a record of scheduled/adhoc duties and untoward incidents, writing legibly and record actual facts using correct reporting and record keeping methods.

28. To report and advise all actual or near miss department incidents on the Trust incident report forms.

29. To control Trust keys held centrally, ensuring signatures are obtained for all keys issued and returned, checking log daily for non-return of keys.

30. To have an awareness of investigation and scenes of crime duties e.g. inspect for signs of break in, search for suspects without endangering personal safety.

31. To check the identity of staff and persons in non-public areas not displaying Trust identity badge.

32. To diffuse potential violent/aggressive situations using conflict resolution skills and customer care skills.

33. To undertake audits under the direction of department Manager in order to prevent and deter crimes e.g. opportunist thefts of Trust/personal property.

34. To participate in Trust staff induction/training awareness days.

35. To ensure communication equipment e.g. handheld radios, pagers are used in line with Trust Policy and codes of conduct.

36. To undertake static guarding duties in accordance with Departmental protocols either on a regular basis or adhoc as directed by the department Supervisor & Manager.

37. To escort staff to car parking on request during hours of darkness.

38. To be responsible for locking/unlocking and securing of buildings as specified.

39. To undertake all duties in accordance with all Trust Policies and Procedures with special attention to information security and confidentiality.
