Job summary
We have opportunities for Specialty Doctors to join our well-establish medical team based at Basildon Hospital (BTUH), based within the Acute Medical Unit (AMU)/Medical Same Day Emergency Care (DEC)/Ambulatory Care Unit). This isSpecialty Doctor full-time post, based on 10+2 PA's a week (subject to change). Part-time staff will receive a pro-rate payment.
You will be expected to carry out ward rounds/reviews on the Acute Assessment Unit/SDEC units and your periods of duty will be defined in accordance with the rota prepared by the Rota Coordinator/Consultant in charge.
Main duties of the job
You will have day-to-day supervisory responsibility for patients on the ward, will cover inpatients under consultant supervision, take part in consultant ward rounds and will ensure that case notes are properly completed, drug prescriptions are regularly reviewed, appropriate investigations are carried out and the results acted upon and made available for consultant ward rounds.
You will ensure that GP electronic discharge letters containing all relevant information are sent in a timely manner, be expected to give advice when required to clinical nurse practitioners and to advise junior medical staff where appropriate and to support the teaching of medical students.
You will attend >60% of the formal education events including audit meetings, complete at least one in depth audit yearly, comply with contracted hours requiring yu to work Bank Holiday's as per rota but time of in lieu will be received.
As our Specialty Doctor you will be allocated an education supervisor who will provide regular appraisals, adhere to Trust and Directorate policies and protocols and promote a friendly and team based working environment - in line with our Trust Values.

- Must have completed at least 4 years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis)
- At least 2 of the 4 years' full-time postgraduate training must be in a relevant specialty (via a training programme or as a fixed term specialty trainee).
- ATLS, ALS, PALS or APLS
- MRCP Part 1
- Candidates qualified outside EC should have evidence of completion of 12 months internship and successfully completed PLAB
