The post holder will be part of an exciting journey within the MSE Surgical Division, across three hospital sites, to expand our services, to serve our thriving and vibrant community.

The successful candidate will be one of 16 Consultant General Surgeons working across three hospital sites. They will be experienced in the surgical techniques for benign upper gastrointestinal surgery and will take part in both the General Surgical and UGI emergency rota.

We intend to hold AAC interviews on 2nd May.

Main duties of the job

You must possess MBBS or equivalent and either have completed or are within 6 months of completing your CCT and have entry onto the Specialist Register.

You may wish to further develop your clinical career with a specialist interest or aspire to be a Clinical Leader or Educator to lead innovative services, and training opportunities

The postholder will provide Upper Gastrointestinal benign expertise to patients of the MSE and emergency services to East Suffolk and North East Essex Foundation Trust (ESNEFT)

There are 2 integrated laparoscopic theatres dedicated to GI surgery. There is access to 3D laparoscopy, as well as a new Xi daVinci robot. The UGI Unit has a strong reputation in innovation and minimally invasive surgery and have expanded the application of robotics to oesophago-gastric cancer surgery.

Separately, the UGI team are a high-output unit performing both endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) and endosurgical dissection for early UGI tumours, and RFA HALO ablation in theatre.

MSE Foundation Trust provides training for medical students from new Chelmsford based Anglia Ruskin Medical School as well as students from UCL. Surgical trainees are appointed nationally and rotate throughout the East of England Deanery. They consistently rate their training experience with us as being 'excellent' to 'very good'.
