Job summary

Are you looking for a specialist role? We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated nurse to join our MS Team.

Our MS service based at Basildon Hospital in Essex provides care to patients and their families in Mid-Essex throughout the course of their illness. We work in partnership with our patients, families, and carers and with the wider medical and allied health care profession teams. We provide nurse-led outpatient and telephone clinics in addition to a dedicated telephone advice line and email. Health promotion and patient education are key components of our role.

Our service includes the provision of disease modifying therapies, which require specialist intervention and monitoring. We offer educational opportunities, both internally and externally, allowing you to develop and expand your specialist knowledge and scope of practice, enabling the development of skills and competencies as a clinical nurse specialist.

We would welcome applications from nurses currently working at band 5 and above in primary or secondary care who enjoy working in a challenging environment, making a difference to the lives of people living with a long-term condition.

Main duties of the job

Provide support for in-patients with a diagnosis of MS and also ward staff to manage the in-patient episode and MS related symptoms. To work within an established MS service covering the Mid Essex area.

Attend consultant and nurse-led clinics as directed for clinical supervision and further learning.

Provide timely support for newly diagnosed patients with MS in line with local & national guidelines. Provide verbal and written information.

Develop an in-depth understanding of medication including disease modifying therapy(DMT) (high-cost drugs) used within the specialty including eligibility criteria, side effects, and unique monitoring and funding requirements.
