Job summary
The DMOP services is an exciting and expanding specialty which has undergone significant change in the last few years. DMOP has substantive Consultants with a range of sub-speciality interests. We are looking to expand our department in order to develop and improve our frailty services across the region across both acute and community domains and improve our frailty liaison services within the trust.
The DMOP bed base consists of:
- A 19 bedded Frailty Ambulatory ward
- One Frailty SDEC service consisting of 5 Trollies
- 5 DMOP wards
Main duties of the job
Applications are invited for a post as Consultant Physician in Medicine for Older People with special interest in Frailty to join the existing team of fourteen full-time consultants in the Department of Medicine for Older People and Stroke. The Department functions as a Sub-Directorate within Local Services.
We are looking for a colleague with broad geriatric medicine expertise with enthusiasm for change and service development as we continue to develop the key components of an integrated system of care for patients with frailty. With some internal reconfiguration of services underway, a variety of specialist interests could be accommodated and applicants are encourage to discuss this with our clinical lead for Frailty services.
The post holder will be responsible for on-going care of elderly patients both through their acute illness and rehabilitation phase while retaining a commitment to participate in the on-call rota of the Medical Division.
The successful candidate will be expected to integrate within the team of existing consultant staff in order to provide excellent quality care to all patients. The candidate will be expected to provide specialist cover for inpatients as well as older patients in the community. The Trust is committed to offering a much more patient focused service and is working towards making services available seven days a week and the successful applicant will be expected to participate in these services.
