Job summary
The post holder as an integral part of the Paediatric Senior team will provide credible professional, clinical and managerial leadership to support, inspire and direct the Ward and departmental senior sisters/senior charge nurses to promote and deliver excellence in nursing care. The matron needs a demonstrable commitment to ensuring clinical standards will be maintained and continually improved as evidenced by achievement of key quality performance indicators.
The post holder will contribute to the Directorate and corporate strategic agenda by participating as a member of the operational team.
The post holder will have a key role as a member of the Paediatric Management team within Women's and Children's service and be furthermore a key member of the Paediatric governance structure. The post holder will work with the divisional management team to meet the Trust performance management targets, commissioner and government requirements.
The post holder will be required to participate in the Trust Staffing Matron on-call rota and deputise for members of the Paediatric management team as required.
The Matron will take responsibility for the delivery and maintenance of the highest standards of nursing.
Main duties of the job
A key responsibility is for ensuring and assuring safe and effective nursing care provision. The Matron should further ensure that patient experience is of the highest quality inspiring patient and public confidence - this will be achieved through high visibility, accessibility and surveillance.
The post holder will ensure that all service users are treated with compassion. dignity and respect, placing value on the diversity of the local community and beyond. He/she will promote best practice and be focused on improving outcomes and experiences for service users and effectively managing risk.
The post holder should have local open and transparent communication channels that support the ward team to do the right thing for the people we care for and to speak up when things go wrong to ensure quality and learning improvement.
