The Healthcare Analytics department within Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a Data Warehouse Developer to join the Data Warehouse and Data Engineering Team(DW&DE).
This is a fantastic opportunity for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual who has experience in a similar role and and wants to join a highly progressive team with ample opportunities to learn and grow.
You will have experience of managing multiple databases and support the maintenance and development of the group and site data warehouses and associated feeds and ETL processes. Good knowledge of SQL server and T-SQL including programming and BI Stack is necessary.
You will get to work on number of exciting projects, with the DW&DE and other teams in the department. The role is currently available as remote working only subject to the post holder having suitable work space.
Main duties of the job
The Data Warehousing and Data Engineering function is split into three distinct and highly skilled teams. The Data Warehouse team is responsible for the implementation, maintenance and on-going development of the on-premises trust data warehouse including the development of new data feeds. Main duties include:
- Actively contribute to the build, management & maintenance of complete data warehouse infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain a detailed working knowledge of the technical content of source systems to inform the design and on-going development of data warehouse.
- Validate data, identify trends and anomalies and use expertise to judge the potential significance and recommend corrective action
- Working closely with the sub-teams of Data Warehousing and Data Engineering team as well as other teams in the Healthcare Analytics department to ensure the continual development and redesign of processes to maximise accuracy and efficiency and reduce the requirement for manual processes.
- Support third party data suppliers in developing specifications that are congruent with the trust's enterprise data architecture.
- Develop and maintain an in-depth knowledge of NHS data flows, datasets, information availability, scope, reliability and data quality issues. This includes a thorough understanding of the NHS data dictionary and knowledge of guidance for specific returns.

The Healthcare Analytics department is part of the Planning and Performance Directorate. The department is responsible for providing an effective analytics service to the Trust and is split into three main functions:
- Analysis & Reporting
- Data Warehousing and Data Engineering
- Commissioning Information
Each of the three functions is led by a MSE Head of service.
The Data Warehousing and Data Engineering function is split into three distinct and highly skilled teams. The Data Warehouse team is responsible for the implementation, maintenance and on-going development of the on-premises trust data warehouse including the development of new data feeds, Azure data warehouse team is responsible for day-to-day maintenance of the Azure ETL and Azure sqldb as well as development work undertaken on Azure. The Data Engineering (DE) team is responsible for the development, build, testing and maintenance of Power BI data models. These products include forecasting, benchmarking, alerts, and triggers to inform users and prompt actions.
As a data warehouse developer, the role will work in the data warehouse team and supports the maintenance and development of the group and site data warehouses and associated feeds and ETL processes. This includes managing changes to data feeds due to upgrades to Medway and Lorenzo. The post holder ensures the integrity of data and creates and maintains flat tables tosupport reporting and the production of datasets on a regular basis, prioritising work and allocating resources to deliver high quality work to agreed specification and within agreed timeline. The role will also undertake new developments and deployment in SQL DWH. The data warehouse team will work closely (as a sub-team) with the Azure Data team on day-to-day basis.
