Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join Kingswood Ward at Basildon Hospital as our ward clerk.

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic, confident person who can demonstrate excellent communication skills with good organisational skills and an ability to work on his/her own initiative and be a good team player.

It is essential that you are computer literate with experience of clerical duties and filing and you will work closely with the multi-disciplinary team and they will have direct contact with patients, relatives and other members of the public. They will have reception duties and will be able to handle public enquiries.

You will work Wednesday to Friday, 0900H to 1430H with half an hour break.

Main duties of the job

As our Ward Clerk you will accept patients on admission to the department in a timely and correct manner, to ensure prompt handovers of patient, ensure the reception and nurse's station remain tidy and clean and escalating any issues to domestic services, nurse in charge, or ward manager as appropriate and attend and participate in Department / Directorate meetings.

You will scan patient notes to ensure timely co-ordination of transfers and discharges, ensure that patient notes are available and accessible, ensure that patient related forms are stocked appropriately at all times, ensure that patient handovers are accurately recorded (including updating the department's main screen) in a timely manner and ensure EPR and Teletracking is up to date and correct at all times.

You will liaise with medical staff to ensure appropriate paperwork is completed for patients for their discharge, including completed discharge summary and follow up clinic appointments, undertake all routine clerical duties as required such as photocopying, filing and scanning, as well as assist the Nurse in Charge (NIC) or Ward Manager (WM) in administrative tasks as required, organise transport for patients if required, arrange for paperwork to be couriered to designated recipients as needed ans to update EPR for changes for patients admitted in the ward.
